Sayreville man charged with lewd conduct; child endangerment

††††††††† Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Michael Zarro of the Spotswood Police Department announced today that a 44-year-old Sayreville man has been arrested and charged with exposing himself to children in a grocery store in Spotswood.

Ronald P. Jakubowski of Washington Road in Sayreville was arrested and charged on February 5, 2014 with sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and lewdness.

He is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick and is waiting for bail to be set.

Jakubowski was arrested outside the grocery store at 8:09 p.m. after an off-duty loss prevention officer determined the defendant had followed children around the store and exposed himself on two separate occasions to each of three girls under the age of 13.

The officer subsequently contacted police, who arrested the defendant in his motor vehicle.

The case is being investigated by Sgt. Edward Schapley, Officer John Berlingiari and Officer Christopher Stenger, all of the Spotswood Police Department, and Lt. Randi Colatrella and Sgt. Raj Chopra, both of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit.

The investigation is active and is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Lt. Colatrella or Sgt. Chopra of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office at (732) 745-3600.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Jakubowski are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
