Sayreville man charged with assault


Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief John J. Zebrowski of the Sayreville Police Department announced today that a state corrections officer has been arrested and charged with attacking a woman in the borough.


††††††††† Devin Gangadyal, 35, of the Parlin section of Sayreville was charged with aggravated assault for attacking the woman in a borough residence on May 8, 2014.


††††††††† Gangadyal, who has worked for the state Department of Corrections for about a year, is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick, where he is waiting for bail to be set.


An investigation by the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office and the Sayreville Police Department began after police were alerted at 2:40 p.m. on May 8, 2014 to the attack.


The woman was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where she is being treated for extensive injuries.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charge against Gangadyal is merely an accusation and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
