Police shoot armed man in New Brunswick

 

††††††††† Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan announced that members of his office are investigating an incident in which New Brunswick police officers shot and wounded a 26-year-old man today.

 

The man, whose identity is being withheld, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he is listed in stable condition.

 

Following the shooting, the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office immediately took control of the investigation. The state Office of the Attorney General will be notified in accordance with guidelines governing the use of force by police.

 

During a preliminary investigation, New Brunswick police reported that several officers shot and wounded the man on Sanford Street when he fired a weapon he was carrying.

 

New Brunswick police reported that they responded to Sanford Street shortly after receiving a call at 12:22 p.m. reporting that the man was seen carrying a weapon.

 

No charges have been filed, but the investigation is active and is continuing.
