Pedestrian struck, killed by auto in Perth Amboy

 

          Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Perth Amboy Police Deputy Chief E.J. McDonald today announced that a 70-year-old pedestrian was killed when he apparently crossed against a red light and was hit by an automobile on Route 35 in Perth Amboy this morning.

 

William H. George, a Perth Amboy resident, was pronounced dead at 3:20 a.m.

 

A preliminary investigation by police has determined that Mr. George was crossing Route 35 at Dorothy Street, against the red light, shortly before 2:59 a.m.

 

He was struck by a 1998 Mazda 626, which was in the right, northbound lane of Route 35. The vehicle was being driven by Cassandra D. Weber, (DOB 6/20/86) of Woodbridge.

 

The driver did not appear to be impaired and voluntarily provided a blood sample. No charges have been filed.
