Old Bridge man indicted on murder charge


Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey announced that an Old Bridge man was indicted today by a grand jury in Middlesex County on a charge of fatally beating his mother.


Jamaar Best-Figueroa (DOB 3/29/88) of Old Bridge was charged in New Brunswick with one count of murder in the death on August 22, 2013 of Shauna Figueroa, 52.


Best-Figueroa initially was arrested and charged with assaulting his mother, who was attacked in their home in Old Bridge on May 30, 2013.


Following the assault, the mother was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, and later was transferred to hospice care. She died at a hospice in Long Branch on Aug. 22, 2013 from medical complications caused by injuries sustained in the assault.


The defendant remains in custody at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick in lieu of $500,000 bail.


††††††††† The indictment was handed up following an investigation by Detective Richard Higgins of the Old Bridge Police Department.
