New Brunswick man fatally shot at home

††††††††† Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Anthony A. Caputo, director of the New Brunswick Police Department, announced that police are investigating the fatal shooting of a city man who was killed in his home this afternoon.

Richard Chang, 40, of 412 Birch Court in New Brunswick was pronounced dead at his home at 3:40 p.m. after police received several calls at 3:18 p.m. reporting gunfire in the vicinity of the victimís townhouse.

Police immediately cordoned off the area, questioned neighbors and continued to search for a suspect, but no arrests have been made.

A preliminary investigation by Detective Ronoldy Martinez of the New Brunswick Police Department and Investigator Jeffrey Temple of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office determined that Mr. Chang was not the intended victim and apparently was struck by a stray bullet fired from outside his home.

He was on the second floor of the townhouse when he was killed. No one else was injured.

An autopsy by the Middlesex County Medical Examinerís Office is scheduled for May 5, 2012.

Mr. Chang was married and worked as a contractor.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Martinez of the New Brunswick Police Department at (732) 745-5217, or Investigator Temple of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office at (732) 745-3373.
