New Public Information Officer

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan today announced the appointment of Jim O’Neill as public information officer.

Under a one-year contract with the prosecutor’s office, O’Neill, 55, will work part-time for Prosecutor Kaplan and his staff, issuing news releases on noteworthy events and responding to inquiries from the media and the public. O’Neill also will assist in the processing of requests for copies of law enforcement records that are permitted to be released under the state’s Open Public Records Act.

He will work approximately 20 hours per week, and will be available to the media on evenings, weekends and holidays, as needed.

Before joining the prosecutor’s office, O’Neill worked as a newspaper reporter, covering trials and legal issues in Middlesex County for The Star-Ledger of Newark. He began his career in 1973 as a reporter for The News Tribune of Woodbridge.

‘’I am grateful for this opportunity to assist Prosecutor Kaplan and his talented and dedicated staff of attorneys, police officers and support teams, all of whom work hard every day for the residents of Middlesex County,’’ O’Neill said.

He may be reached on weekdays at the prosecutor’s office by calling (732) 745-3300.
