Monroe man indicted on charges of injuring three in collision

††††††††† Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey announced that a grand jury sitting in Middlesex County handed up an indictment today charging a Monroe Township man with injuring three people in a multiple vehicle crash.

Ernest Feist (DOB 12/30/58) of Monroe Township was indicted on two counts of aggravated assault and three counts of assault by auto for causing the crash in the township on June 4, 2013.

The indictment was returned in New Brunswick after Investigator Michael Daniewicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office determined that Feist was intoxicated and was travelling at a high rate of speed at the time of the collision.

Police were dispatched to the scene of the crash on Hoffman Station Road, near the Hoffman Road intersection, at 5:03 p.m. on June 4, 2013.

The investigation determined that Feist, who was heading west in a 2012 Mercedes CLS, crossed over the double yellow line and struck an on-coming vehicle, a 2004 Toyota Highlander, that was driven by a 57-year-old Manalapan woman.

She was airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, was treated for severe injuries and continues to undergo medical treatment.

Also seriously injured in the crash was a passenger in Feistís vehicle, a 34-year-old man from Effort, Pa. He was taken to The Princeton Medical Center in Plainsboro.

Feist was charged with a count of aggravated assault and assault by auto for each of those victims.

He also was charged with a count of assault by auto for causing injuries to another motorist, a 31-year-old Manalapan woman who was driving a 2004 Mazda that was traveling behind the Toyota Highlander.

The driver of the Mazda was taken to CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, where she was treated for injuries and was released.

The investigation is active and is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Daniewicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office at (732) 745-4018.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, Feist is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
