Manasquan man convicted

A 42-year-old Manasquan man is facing up to 30 years in prison after being convicted in Middlesex County of charges of sexually abusing two boys, ages 13 and 9, in Old Bridge in 2004, Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan announced today.

Robert Morrissey (DOB 5/13/66) was found guilty on January 29, 2009, of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of the children on various occasions between June 1, 2004, and August 31, 2004.

During a trial that began on January 21, Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Christie Bevacqua presented evidence and testimony showing that the defendant showed the children pornography and then sexually assaulted them in his home in Old Bridge, when he lived in the township.

Superior Court Judge Dennis Nieves immediately revoked Morrissey’s bail, which had been set at $350,000. The judge is scheduled to sentence the defendant in the Middlesex County Courthouse in New Brunswick on May 1, 2009.

He also is facing a trial on additional charges involving two other victims, both under the age of 18. No trial date has been set.

In the pending case, Morrissey is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
