Man dies following shooting

††††††††† Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan announced that a 51-year-old South River man, who had been shot by a borough police officer while brandishing a knife, died this afternoon at a hospital in New Brunswick.

Kevin F. McGlyn, a resident of the Village Green apartment complex in South River, was pronounced dead at 4:42 p.m. at Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center.

The Middlesex County Medical Examinerís Office is scheduled to perform an autopsy on February 25, 2013 to determine the cause of death.

Immediately following the shooting, the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office took full control of an investigation and notified the state Office of the Attorney General, in accordance with state guidelines.

The investigation is active and is continuing.

Mr. McGlyn was shot by one of two borough police officers on February 23, 2013, after he confronted them with the knife in a parking lot at the apartment complex.

The officers were not injured. Their identities are being withheld at this time.

The officers had been dispatched to the apartment complex after residents called police to report that the man, later identified as Mr. McGlyn, had threatened two men in the parking lot.

During the investigation, Mr. McGlyn was charged with three counts of terroristic threats and two weapons offenses.

Two counts charge that Mr. McGlyn threatened the two men with the knife. The third count charged Mr. McGlyn had threatened a woman in a separate, earlier incident.
