Man arrested and charged with murder in Old Bridge

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Old Bridge Police Director Thomas H. Collow announced today that a Bloomfield man has been arrested and charged with the murder of his girlfriend, a 28-year-old township woman who was strangled March 12, 2009, in her apartment.

Frank P. Rendfrey, (DOB 1/17/75) of Bloomfield, was apprehended yesterday, May 21, 2009, in Newark and was charged following a lengthy investigation into the death of Angela Paranzino, of Rellim Drive, Old Bridge.

Rendfrey, who is being held on $1 million bail at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center, also was charged with hindering his apprehension by making the crime appear as if Ms. Paranzino died from a drug overdose.

In addition, Rendfrey was charged with burglary and theft after police determined he took jewelry from the victim’s apartment. He also was charged with making terroristic threats for threatening to shoot a New York City man in an unrelated incident.

Old Bridge Detective Michael Machen and Investigator James Mullin, of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, began a search for Rendfrey after toxicological testing determined Ms. Paranzino had not died from a drug overdose, but had been the victim of manual strangulation.

Police began an investigation after an unidentified relative called 911 on March 12, 2009, at 9:31 p.m. A short time later, Ms. Paranzino was pronounced dead at the scene.

Superior Court Judge Frederick DeVesa set the $1 million bail. Rendfrey is scheduled to appear before the judge on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 9 a.m. at the Middlesex County Courthouse in New Brunswick.
