Troy Hafesh (DOB 5/16/69) of Edison was charged with the aggravated manslaughter of his passenger, a 43-year-old man whose name is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of his next of kin.

Hafesh also has been charged with burglary, eluding police, causing the death of the man while driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of the crash, and the attempted murder of a police officer who tried to stop the defendant and his passenger as they fled.

Upon arriving, police entered the diner, saw two men fleeing and attempted to stop them. The pair got into their vehicle and tried to run down an officer, who dove to safety. The officer was not injured.
The vehicle, a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder, fled on Stelton Road. Police lost sight of the vehicle before they could get into their cars and were unable to pursue the suspects.
As police searched for the suspects, they received a call at 6:48 a.m. from a resident who said a stranger arrived at his house and asked for help.
