Woodbridge Patrolman Gennaro DeStefano and Investigator Sean OíLone, of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office, determined the victim was struck by a vehicle traveling north on Route 27.
While there was no license plate or description of the vehicle, the investigators were able to identify the fleeing vehicle as a 2007 Chrysler 300.
Police found the car during a subsequent search of auto body shops in the area, and arrested McGuirl when he arrived at the shop.
Prosecutor Kaplan praised the work of DeStefano and OíLone, noting that despite the difficult task of gathering evidence in a hit-and-run case, they worked quickly to identify the vehicle and make an arrest.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Patrolman DeStefano at (732) 634-7700, or Investigator OíLone at (732) 745-3331.
As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charge against McGuirl is merely an accusation and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
