Middlesex County Office of Health Services
Sponsors Pancreatic Cancer Walk

The Middlesex County Office of Health Services and the Middlesex County Cancer Coalition are sponsoring the Fourth Annual Pancreatic Cancer Walk to raise community awareness about the disease and to help raise funds to aid research.

This family event is scheduled to be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Roosevelt Park in Edison by the lake.  Check-in time will be from 8:30 to 9 a.m.

Registration is $10 and donations are encouraged.  Proceeds will benefit pancreatic cancer research at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ).  Interested walkers can register by visiting the CINJ Web site at http://cinjfoundation.donordrive.com/event/pancwalk2012 or by contacting John Dowd by phone 732-745-3100 or by e-mail john.dowd@co.middlesex.nj.us.

Middlesex County Freeholder Deputy Director Ronald G.Rios said, “Over the past three years, Middlesex County has raised over $8,200 to benefit pancreatic cancer research at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.  This year our goal is to raise $10,000.”

Freeholder Rios added: “Funding from previous events has been put toward a pancreatic cancer clinical trial that tests the effectiveness of new vaccine combinations and immune response. Through continued contributions to research and the more we learn about pancreatic cancer, we can provide more support to people and families affected by this devastating disease.”

Freeholder H. James Polos, Chairperson, Public Safety and Health Committee, stated: “I would like to invite everyone to Walk with Us to Find a Cure.  This event provides an opportunity to continue to increase awareness, raise funds, and educate individuals about pancreatic cancer.”

“Middlesex County is committed to providing the highest quality of life for our residents,” said Freeholder Director Christopher D. Rafano. “As you can see by the number of individuals and groups supporting this event, we have outstanding partners in the community who share our goal.”

Lester Jones, Middlesex County Office of Health Services Director-Health Officer said: “We are very lucky to have the Cancer Institute of New Jersey as a partner again this year.  I would also like to acknowledge the Middlesex County Academy for Allied Health and Biomedical Sciences, the Middlesex County Cancer Coalition, the Middlesex County Parks and Recreation Department, and Param Health Care Services Inc. for their the continued support for this cause.”

Jones also commended the Middlesex County Office of Parks and Recreation for making Roosevelt Park available for the event: “Roosevelt Park will serve as a great backdrop to this event.”
