Middlesex County Office of Public Health Announces
2011-2012 Seasonal Influenza and Pneumococcal Vaccination Program

The Middlesex County Office of Public Health has announced its 2011-2012 Seasonal Influenza and Pneumococcal Vaccination Program.

“Middlesex County is committed to offering our residents the programs and services they need to keep themselves and their loved ones safe,” said Freeholder Carol Barrett Bellante, chair of the County’s Public Health and Education Committee. “Our flu and pneumococcal clinic program is one important way we can boost the health and welfare of all who live and work here.”

Nineteen seasonal Influenza and Pneumococcal (pneumonia) clinics are scheduled between Sept. 16 and Oct. 7 in the communities served by the Middlesex County Office of Public Health.

Influenza vaccination clinics will be open to Middlesex County residents age 6 months and older. No appointment is necessary. Influenza vaccinations will cost $15 each. All fees will be accepted in cash only.  Exact change is strongly advised. No bill larger than $20 will be accepted.  Residents who present a valid Red, White, and Blue Medicare card will not be charged. Their Medicare will be billed.

Everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccination as soon as vaccine is available this fall,” said Katherine Antonitis, Acting Director-Health Officer of the Public Health Office. “The single best way to prevent the flu is to get vaccinated each year, but good health habits can also help protect against the flu.”

You can also help reduce the spread of flu if you:

Pneumococcal vaccination clinics will be available by appointment only to residents age 65 and older who have never received the pneumococcal vaccination. Residents who present a valid Red, White, and Blue Medicare card will not be charged. Their Medicare will be billed. All other residents must pay the $20 fee to receive the pneumococcal vaccination. Pneumococcal vaccination appointments can be made by calling 732-745-3100 Monday through Friday from 2 to 4 p.m.

All fees will be accepted in cash only.  Exact change is strongly advised. No bill larger than $20 will be accepted.  Clients who do not have their valid Medicare cards must pay the vaccination fee, or they can bring their cards to a future Middlesex County Office of Public Health clinic to receive services. Receipts will be provided at the time of service.

Rafano. “I encourage our residents to visit our Web site to see if there are other services and programs offered through our Public Health Office that may benefit them as well.”
