Middlesex County Public Health Department Adds Four Additional Influenza Clinics

The Middlesex County Public Health Department has scheduled four (4) additional flu shot clinics.

An adult vaccination clinic is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 10. Pediatric clinics have been scheduled for noon to 2 p.m. Dec. 30 and 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 5, 2011.  These clinics will be held at the Middlesex County Clinic located at 596 Jersey Ave., Suite B, in New Brunswick.

The fourth clinic will accommodate adults and children. It is scheduled for 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 6, 2011 at the Middlesex County Fire Academy, 1001 Fire Academy Drive, Sayreville.

No appointments are needed. There will be a charge of $10 per vaccination. The $10 fee will be accepted in cash only. Exact change is strongly advised. No bills larger than $20 will be accepted. Receipts will be provided at the time of service. Parent or legal guardian must be present at time of vaccination.

Middlesex County Freeholder Deputy Director Ronald G. Rios, chair of the County’s Public Health and Education Committee said: “We continue to offer our residents the programs and services they need to keep themselves and their loved ones safe. Our flu clinic program is one important way we can boost the health and welfare of all who live and work in Middlesex County.”

David A. Papi, Director-Health Officer of the Middlesex County Public Health Department stated, “The CDC recommends that everyone age 6 months and older be vaccinated against influenza.  Residents can also protect themselves and others against the flu by practicing good health habits such as: staying home when you are sick; avoiding close contact with people who are sick; cleaning your hands often; avoiding touching your eyes, nose, or mouth; covering your coughs or sneezes; getting regular exercise and rest; and eating healthy, balanced meals.”

Each year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) observe National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW).  This year the event is scheduled for Dec. 5 to 11. This national awareness campaign has been created to educate the general population about the importance of continuing influenza vaccination after the holiday season into January and beyond.

Dr. Susan Walsh, Deputy Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, recently received her flu vaccination at the Middlesex County Public Health Department seasonal flu clinic in Metuchen and encouraged residents to get vaccinated.
